According to WHO figures, unsafe healthcare practises see 134 million negative incidents, which result in 2.6 million annual deaths. Consequently, patient safety should become a global priority, especially as most of these deaths are avoidable.

To mark the day, the Emile Mayrisch Hospital Centre (CHEM) in Esch-sur-Alzette organised three workshops in its main hall.

One of the main purposes of the first workshop was to show people how to disinfect their hands properly. The importance of disinfecting cannot be understated, as it ensures that those who are already sick do not have their conditions worsened.

The second workshop focused on identifying patients by their wristbands to prevent mix-ups which could have severe consequences. Finally, the third workshop focused on continuous training for staff and visitors, namely how to act when somebody requires resuscitation.

The hospital's management highlighted the importance of fully taking care of patients, as even the slightest move such as disinfecting fingers properly can increase patient safety in hospitals.
