Dethier first spoke about attempts of greenwashing here in Luxembourg, meaning measures that look good on paper but in fact do little to protect the environment in a relevant manner.
Dethier also addressed the new Citizens’ Council on Climate, which will first convene at the end of January. The Council will be made up of 100 people who can put forward proposals on how the population can actively participate in the protection of the environment.
Dethier questioned the efficiency of this model and believes it may just be for optics, or even a campaign tactic by Prime Minister Bettel. Nevertheless, there is a need for concrete measures and Luxembourg can still become a pioneer in this domain. The country’s ecological footprint is too great, which is why a change of mentality is needed, Dethier further noted.
