The three unions have requested a series of measures to be implemented within schools, such as reducing class sizes, rethinking language classes and redesigning the orientation procedure for students in 5ième (third year of secondary school).

The unions said they understood that managing the Covid crisis was a priority for authorities, but that other issues should not be left to fall by the wayside.

The unions propose reducing classes from a maximum of 29 pupils to 24 as part of an initial phase, eventually dropping down to 20 students per class.

They also requested that a photocopying service be freely available in secondary schools.

Language learning should be redesigned from literacy in primary schools, all the way to the final years in secondary school, to allow for inclusion rather than exclusion.

The unions also requested a permanent committee, bringing together parents, pupils and teachers, to allow in-depth reflection on the future of public schools in the Grand Duchy.
