The agreement was signed in Strasbourg on Tuesday and covers situations such as terrorist attacks, nuclear threats or biological warfare in the cross-border area.

It was worked out in a transnational workgroup and will come into force on 1 January 2022. It aims to coordinate cooperation between police and customs across the borders in order to increase efficiency and reactivity.

Further similar agreements should follow among other nations in the region.
