In order to encourage more people to get their vaccine, several doctor's practices are offering the jab as of Friday.
13-year-old Joshua Becker is one of the 24 patients that got vaccinated on Friday afternoon in Mersch. His mum explains she trusts her local GP more to vaccinate her children than an anonymous vaccination centre.
The demand is high, states doctor David Heck. Around 80 patients have already booked an appointment in his cabinet, of all age categories. This also includes people that have already had their first jab but could not make it to their appointment for the second vaccine at the centre.
The advantage of getting the jab at the local GP is that one phone call suffices to make an appointment. Contrastingly, one has to sign up on a list if one does not have a valid invitation. However, the consultation for the vaccine has to be paid for, and the CNS reimburses 88% of the cost. Negotiations are in place to decrease the price even more, says doctor Heck.
Video report in Luxembourgish:
Based on the patient's medical history, the doctor chooses which vaccine is best suited. Due to logistical reasons, the cabinets only offer Biontech/Pfizer for now, although AstraZeneca and Johnson&Johnson are to follow.
Just like at the vaccination centres, the data is immediately transferred into the programme and CovidCheck (after the second jab). You can find a list of the 80 generalists and paediatricians who are offering the vaccines as of Monday on the Covid-19 website.
