Last year, 3.2 million bottles of sparkling wine were sold in Luxembourg, matching pre-pandemic rates. During the same time period, people drank 5,700,000 litres of Luxembourgish wine.
Although consumers are drinking slightly less, the quality of their chosen wines has increased, explained officials during the virtual meeting.
Claude Haagen, the new Minister of Agriculture, Viticulture and Rural Development, was also present at the conference.
Last year, winemakers received government support in relation to the pandemic, with rapid tests being handed out during the harvest season.
The National Employment Agency (Adem) also recruited 31 people to help with the harvest at the end of summer. Further support was awarded for advertising purposes, the respective budget having been increased to €350,000.
To conclude this year’s edition of the national day of viticulture, a panel discussion took place between national experts on sustainable winemaking.
