Several Delhaize supermarkets became the target of a cyberattack on Monday, which specifically affected fridge and freezer units. The majority of impacted stores are in Belgium, with dozens reportedly affected, but a number of Luxembourg branches were also hit.

A Delhaize spokesperson confirmed the incident to RTL, stating that the company took immediate action to ensure stores remained operational and to guarantee the freshness of products.

Delhaize did not specify which Luxembourg locations were affected in its response to RTL.

Carrefour stores also affected

Fifteen Belgium stores in the Carrefour supermarket chain were hit by a cyberattack that caused some refrigerators to soar in temperature, a spokesman told AFP on Monday.

"It's a cyberattack, there is no other reason," Carrefour Belgium spokesman Mich Vergauwen said, noting the "impact is very limited". He said 15 stores among 700 in total were affected but not every refrigerator was impacted.

Supermarket chains Colruyt and Intermarche also told AFP they were hit by technical problems affecting fridges in five and around 15 stores respectively, without confirming if a cyberattack was suspected.
