Since the health crisis has rendered the capital a bit of a ghost town, the hassle of finding a parking space has practically been relegated to ancient history.

Inevitably, under the extraordinary circumstances, the inclination to no longer slip a coin into the parking meter is a tempting  one. Especially since the city officials seem hard to come by these days.

However, motorists are advised against this idea, says the City in response to our queries. "The services of the City of Luxembourg are currently working according to a business continuity plan, which allows the administration to continue to guarantee essential services to its citizens and visitors, while reducing staff on the ground as much as possible. "

The representative added that "the regulations in terms of on-street parking and covered parking, as well as the Highway Code, are still in force and must therefore be respected by users." So beware, should you choose to try your luck and tempt fate!

EXCEPTIONS FOR THE HEALTH SECTOR?

As we know, our health sector is highly dependent on cross-border workers, professionals who are  right now fighting the coronavirus on the front line. This is why a caregiver put on an appeal on Facebook to create an exception for all caregivers. Here the appeal in full:

"Notice to the Luxembourg authorities and to the Minister of Health:

Madam Minister, I am part of the staff working for a health institution in your country, and every day for almost 20 years I have been crossing the border to do my work, and look after sick people ... for several years parking has become a real issue and we carpool to 4 or 5 per vehicle. In the current health war I expressly ask you, with great respect, to intervene in the case of all caregivers, so that they can park their vehicle without being fined, so that we can continue to provide the best care to patients. I hope you will consider my request and thank you.

Chantal Potier.
Caregiver"
