Hidden in the depths of Statec's study on young people published on Friday, we discovered figures relating to the age of injured drivers who tested positively for alcohol consumption in 2018.

The study yielded some interesting results: numbers revealed that it was predominantly those aged 25-34 who were found to have drunk before driving (31%). Those aged 35-44 ranked second, accounting for 23% of accidents, followed by 45-54 year-olds (19%). It seems that it is the youngest and oldest generations of the population that are least likely to be found with alcohol in their system, with 16% and 11% respectively.

However, at the same time, Statec's "Regards #15" study reports that 31% of people who lost their lives on our roads in 2018 were under 25 years old. The institution goes further to state that, overall, young people accounted for 24% of victims injured or killed on the roads.

The most common traffic offence among drivers aged 16-24 years old remains speeding, although, according to Statec, they also appear to respect the right of way and safety distance more than older drivers.
