According to the state's mobility commission, this lane will remain exclusive to all emergency vehicles and breakdown lorries.
So-called "lane splitting", which constitutes driving between two lanes of stopped or slow-moving traffic, is also banned.
Neighbouring and nearby countries have regulated this latter practice in different ways. It is allowed in Belgium in France, albeit subject to certain speed limitations. Meanwhile, it is forbidden in Germany and Austria due to the danger for the motorcyclists themselves.
According to the mobility commission, it would be too dangerous to allow this practice in the Grand Duchy because of the large amount of transit traffic the country experiences. Different legislation would thus only confuse drivers.
A new training ground for motorcyclists is also planned. In addition to the already existing ones near Luxembourg Airport and in Ingeldorf, a third site is to be constructed in the south of the country, specifically behind the control station in Esch.
