Payout of subsidiesEnvironment Agency determined to reduce delays

RTL Today
An application for a subsidy following the purchase of an electric bicycle can currently take up to 17 months to be processed.

The wait for applications related to electric cars and charging stations is only one to two months. Meanwhile, applications for subsidies for home renovations and technical installations can take six to eleven months to be processed. If an application is approved, it still takes between one and two weeks for the administrations to pay out the subsidy. David Glod, acting director of the Environment Agency, confirmed this to our colleagues from RTL Télé.

Glod explained that applications are processed “in chronological order.” In the past, there have been periods when a large number of applications arrived “all at once.” For example, Glod recalls that “around 6,000" applications for electric bicycle subsidies were submitted to the agency in March 2021. Since the agency only has the capacity to assess around 2,000 applications, this created a backlog which is still causing delays to this day.

The Environment Agency is determined to reduce delays and additional workers will be hired for the service in charge of processing applications. In addition to the ten positions allocated to the agency as part of the tripartite agreement, more workers will be recruited to support the current 23 staff members. The Environment Agency also plans to hire an expert to simplify administrative procedures.
