"Not enough"Environment minister describes mixed reactions after COP27

RTL Today
We hoped for sterner words excluding fossil fuels from the agreement, admitted Minister for the Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development Joëlle Welfring in conversation with RTL.

The Greens politician praised the fact that last year’s agreement was not diluted and that the new compensation fund will help turn the page. She also acknowledged that the fund has been opened to countries that industrialised more recently, which will help provide additional help to those in need.

However, Minister Welfring also warned that this latest climate agreement, signed by around 200 countries, is still not far-reaching enough for the planet. Nevertheless, progress has been made on a national and European level, which is why Luxembourg can evaluate further steps forward.

It is important that the fund does not simply constitute empty promises, added Welfring.
