On birth of first childEurostat: Luxembourg mothers third-oldest in EU

A new report from the EU's official statistics agency shows that mothers in Luxembourg are the third-oldest in the EU on the birth of their first child.

The data shows stark disparities between different regions of Europe, with Bulgarian mothers being the youngest in Europe, at 26.2, followed by Romania (26.7), Slovakia (27.1), Latvia (27.2) and Poland (27.4).

In contrast, the countries of southern and parts of western Europe have the oldest first-time mothers: Italy is in first place, at 31.2, with Spain (31.0), Luxembourg (30.9), Switzerland* (30.9) and Ireland (30.5) not far behind.

*Not in the European Union.
