The accused was on trial for the murder of his ex-girlfriend Ana Lopes. Evidence incriminating the defendant was presented from Tuesday to Thursday over the course of the trial. The defendant had changed his story two days after the act, according to the police.
Geolocation information showed that the accused had made several trips the evening before the murder which he did not discuss with the investigators. He also provided erroneous information, such as the fact that he had gone to Germany the morning after the deed, when he had first stated that he was in Luxembourg. The afternoon of the same day, he was located not far from the place where the body of Ana Lopes had been found near the French border, according to the investigator.
Data from the victim's mobile phone could be used because there was practically nothing left of the device; while data from the accused's telephone revealed that he received a text from his mother shortly after 3am, to which he replied about three hours later. Both messages were deleted. Unusually, mobile data was hardly used on the day of the murder.
Plastic cable ties similar to those found at the alleged scene of the murder in Bonnevoie were also found at the accused's workplace.
Former associates of the accused have all described the latter as displaying authoritarian behaviour. The defendant claimed to have spent the night of the murder at his home, a statement which was supported by his family.
The trial, which is expected to last four weeks, will continue on Friday.
