Political satireFamily members should be off limit: Marc Goergen

RTL Today
The MP from Luxembourg's Pirate Party sat down for an interview with RTL on Thursday morning.

"We do not at all complain when memes target our political content. However, when our family members are being attacked and ridiculed online, we want to draw a line!"

That was the message deputy Goergen sent this morning during his interview with RTL Radio. He recently argued that some memes, which are targeting family members of politicians, should be removed from the internet. He also filed a lawsuit in that regard.

Goergen nevertheless remained firm on his party's position to keep the internet a censorship-free environment, but emphasised that this did not equal a zone of lawlessness. The Pirate Party moreover supports the use of memes in the spirit of political satire, a tool which they also employ themselves.

When asked about the party's role in the chamber of deputies, Goergen admitted that the 6% received during the last elections might have come as a surprise, but that the party would still regularly engage in critical discussions and live up to the expectations of a productive opposition.
