The first Moon landing was not only a sensation in 1969 but continues to fascinate young and old generations alike.

The 21 July 1969 marked a historic day in human kind's collective calendar. Around 600 million people from 49 countries sacrificed their sleep to follow the Moon landing on TV.

The landing was also broadcast in Luxembourg - and celebrated 50 years later with a conference in Bourscheid.

The fascination with space travel proved to be contagious in Bourscheid on Sunday. An anniversary conference held at Bourscheid castle welcomed space and astronomy enthusiasts.

Experts explained natural phenomena such as ebb and flow, the blood moon and much more to their intergenerational audience.

It was with a sense of excitement and fascination that they almost nostalgically looked back to the first Moon landing. Professor and engineer Nicolas Feierstein assumed the role of presenter and reminisced about the landing.

The Moon landing was not only a key political event during the Cold War. Had it never happened, the world today would be profoundly different and less technologically developed.

Experts and visitors also looked into the stars and, despite Luxembourg's suboptimal light conditions, witnessed the wonders of space firsthand.

Will we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Moon landing in 50 years? Or perhaps the first anniversary of the Mars landing? We'll have to wait and see.
