Minister Bofferding underlined that nobody will be forced in the context of the initiative, but that those municipalities that already made the decision to fuse with another one will receive better support in the future. Subsidies will thus be increased by 10% and paired with a more extensive consultation process, all designed as an incentive for other regions to follow suit.
Nordstad has already begun the process, while Grosbous, Wahl, and Waldbredimus have shown interest in a municipal fusion.
