
The Ministry of Health's report has concluded that last week saw a 17% reduction in corona cases, while the vaccination campaign is facing a bumpy road ahead following the announcement that Luxembourg will temporarily receive fewer doses.
859 people tested positive for Covid-19 between 11-17 January, based on 51,200 tests. That is 12,000 fewer than in the week prior. 19 deaths were reported last week, down from 26. The average age of the deceased is 77; the average age of positive cases is 38.9.
As of 17 January, the number of active infections stood at 2,336 (compared to 2,720 on 10 January) and the number of people 'cured' rose from 44,773 to 45,997.
Family gatherings remain the biggest source of infection: 44.2%. This is followed by trips abroad, which accounts for 10.8%. The rate of contamination for which the source is not clearly attributable is 30.3%.
The incidence rate has dropped from 1.06% to 0.92%. The positivity rate of 1.68% remains stable. On average, 137 people are infected per 100,000 inhabitants.
The situation is improving in hospitals: 69 patients were hospitalised last week, 21 of them in intensive care, compared to 76 and 25, respectively. 2,052 people were in isolation (-10%) and 2,379 in quarantine (+5%).
On Wednesday evening 5,294 people were vaccinated against the virus.
A new large-scale test centre will open its doors in Mersch as of Monday as the one in Roost will close on Saturday.
