Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Xavier Bettel has confirmed that Paulette Lenert is set to be appointed as Luxembourg’s commissioner for the World Expo 2030 in Riyadh. Speaking on RTL Radio on Tuesday morning, Bettel said he would formally propose Lenert for the role, describing the appointment as a "win-win" situation for both parties.

Bettel emphasised that the upcoming expo, to be held in the Saudi capital in 2030, made it particularly significant to appoint a woman to the position. He also noted that Lenert’s profile as a former deputy prime minister would carry added weight in countries such as Saudi Arabia, compared with many other potential candidates.

Lenert is expected to take up her duties at the Ministry of Foreign Trade on 1 July, where she will begin preparations for her new responsibilities.
