Environmental protectionForthcoming nature pact to work like existing climate pact: Carole Dieschbourg

RTL Today
The agreement is supposed to incentivise municipalities to increase their environmental protection efforts.

The pact is designed to help implement the national environmental plan, Minister Carole Dieschbourg of the Green Party explained during the presentation of the programme on Thursday morning.

It is in fact supposed to function in the same manner as the existing climate pact, meaning that municipalities can sign an agreement with the government to take part in the initiative. They then have to implement a series of environmental policies, for which they will be compensated with up to €10,000 while also receiving a governmental consultant.

The more a municipality increases its efforts in environmental protection, the more subsidies they can receive. The programme is set to last around 10 years, during which the government plans on investing around €32 million.

The draft bill has already been accepted by the state council, while the final agreement is set to be presented in October.
