The club based in Useldange counts around 40 members, including Pit Mootz, 20, and Tim Urbany, 19, two glider pilots. They both love to spend their free time gliding.
Pit Mootz has just completed his first year of engineering studies in Innsbruck, Austria, and Tim Urbany us hoping to embark on his studies in Munich starting in autumn. Tim is hoping to make a living from gliding in the future.
The CLVV is the only gliding club in the Grand Duchy. Their runway is roughly one kilometre in length and is located in Useldange, in the west of the country. A gliding flight can take just a few minutes or last several hours, depending on thermal lift conditions.
Launching the glider with a rope at 120 km/h and leaving the ground within just a few seconds is a very special kick, according to the two young Luxembourgers. They can both see themselves potentially becoming professional pilots working for an airline in the future. It takes two years of pilot training to obtain a flying license.
