The government will meet the Union of Luxembourg Enterprises (UEL), the Independent Luxembourg Trade Union Confederation (OGBL), the Luxembourg Confederation of Christian Trade Unions (LCGB), and the General Confederation of the Civil Service (CGFP) at the Kirchberg Conference Centre on Tuesday afternoon.

This meeting will bring government and social partners around the same table for the first time in a long while.

A press briefing is scheduled for 4.30pm.

Economic data

The National Institute for Statistics and Economic Studies (STATEC) and the Government Commissioner for Energy Simeon Hagspiel will also present the latest economic data.

The consequences of the war in Iran are expected to be the main topic of the tripartite, as PM Luc Frieden explained on Friday. However, the social partners will be free to put forward any measures they consider appropriate, provided they are linked to the war, Frieden said.

The Union of Luxembourg Trade Unions – an alliance between the OGBL and the LCGB – has already indicated that it would also like to discuss the minimum wage.

Demonstration in Dommeldange

This issue will also be addressed on Tuesday evening at the Parc Hotel in Dommeldange, where a large rally is being organised by the OGBL and LCGB.

The invitation to the event refers to a gathering in support of a structural increase in the minimum wage. The unions also want to inform their members about the latest developments in the tripartite negotiations
