Pirate Party taking stockGovernment needs to improve communication: Pirate Party

RTL Today
Luxembourg's Pirate Party took stock of the parliamentary year. MPs argued that the coalition government was not communicative enough, and that it often sidelined the opposition parties.

Pirate Party MP Sven Clement argued that this tendency became particularly apparent during the pandemic.

Even before the pandemic struck Luxembourg, the Pirate Party had already demanded that the government invest in debt reduction rather than further increasing public debt, Clement said. This recommendation was ignored, which is partly why the government is now left with relatively little room for maneuver to battle the repercussions of the pandemic, he explained.

The Pirate Party also demanded that the rules for nursing homes be standardised. The current incoherence is leaving many inhabitants of nursing homes increasingly vexed, Marc Goergen stressed. According to the MP, care homes must be controlled more by the state and driven less by economic forces. The Pirates added that the residents of nursing homes should be given the possibility to redeem their €50 tourism vouchers inside the care homes.

Short-time working schemes should also be extended as infection numbers continue to climb in Luxembourg, the party stressed.
