Officials have made the decision because the extreme heat will only affect a short period of time. Furthermore, the evening is already expected to see a drop in temperatures.
The new heatwave plan has only been in place since June this year. Once activated, the plan allows several institutions to take concrete measures, including the Health Directorate, the Ministry for Family Affairs and Integration, the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CDSIS), as well as hospitals.
Last week, the Water Management Authority already put out a set of recommendations on how to save water. If the emergency plan were to be activated, the recommendations would turn into obligations, explained deputy director Luc Zwank. In case of a red alert, municipalities will put out decrees to inform residents about the implications.
