Parliamentary questionHow is hunted game handled in Luxembourg?

RTL Today
In a recent parliamentary question, Pirate Party MP Marc Goergen asked about the way game meat is handled in Luxembourg

Ministers Etienne Schneider, Carole Dieschbourg, and Romain Schneider joined efforts to reply to Georgen's parliamentary question. They stressed that game meat was treated and and controlled in the same way as meat raised on a farm. They added that "game meat is a natural and healthy food product."

They also explained that it was part of the hunters' responsibility to adhere to food safety standards when it comes to come meat. Hunters also have to undergo a special training to prepare them for that responsibility.

European food legislation does not, however, set a specific timeframe within which the game meat has to be cooled and/or refrigerated. It is not uncommon that cooling containers are set up at hunts. The shot animals are also checked by the veterinary inspectorate before the meat is sold. If the inspectorate suspects that an animal has not been cooled quickly enough, the carcass may be destroyed.
