Wilmes lamented that Engel's comments tend to draw attention away from CSV's policies and agenda:

RTL Today article: Engel's comments damage the party's image, says Serge WilmesFrank Engel has already commented on the interview, providing us with his side of the story: "I fail to see how Wilmes' comments are of any help to our party, apart from putting the focus of the public eye on our internal disagreements. Naturally, I understand that everyone is interested in such a story. Looking back on the two years that I've spent as party president and where I've used every single opportunity to praise and elevate my CSV colleagues, I have to say that this favour has not been returned a single time. I find that particularly disappointing from our leaders. I guess that will be an issue we have to resolve sooner rather than later."

The next CSV congress will take place on 24 April. So far, there has been little interest from other party members in taking over the role of president. During his interview with RTL Radio, Serge Wilmes stated that he will prioritise his role as MP and Luxembourg City councilman, before seriously considering the position.

Where does Engel see his own future? He commented: "I am unable to tell you exactly at the moment. I have forwarded a proposal to my party colleagues because I agree that we cannot go on like this. I hope that we can come together soon and decide on an adequate, or even better, allocation of roles that will make everybody happy. I hope that the CSV can agree on a common path forward into the future."
