The Luxembourg Confederation of Christian Trade Unions (LCGB) denounced on Thursday morning the "arrogance" of Luxair's general management ahead of a sectoral aviation tripartite in Kirchberg. In a statement sent to the press, the union points to a "shameful social dismantling plan which (...) jeopardises the social achievements of the employees".

The LCGB refers to the abolition of numerous benefits and certain "rights" of Luxair employees. These changes are said to have been decided "unilaterally" by the airline and were the subject of a joint statement by the three unions represented within the company.

In this context, the union reiterated its position by strongly opposing the measures announced by the group's management. The LCGB pointed out that the unions had presented a viable plan for the future which ensured that the company's activities and jobs were sustainable and that social benefits were maintained.

Faced with a "total refusal to hold discussions", the unions therefore decided to appeal to the employees of the aviation sector to gather on Thursday at 8am on the Place de l'Europe not far from the place where the sectoral tripartite will take place an hour later.

On Thursday morning, the union insisted on the fact that the employees of Luxair deserved fair recognition. The represented unions would offer their support and backing to the ministers so that they may carry out the tripartite discussions fairly in order to draft an overall plan for the future of Luxair and the Luxembourg aviation sector.

The LCGB also warned that if, at the end of this tripartite meeting, Luxair's management showed "stubbornness", the unions would not hesitate to warn of the possible "serious consequences" to come.
