DudelangeLocal Green politicians pleased with Fage factory withdrawal

Dudelange members of Déi Gréng party took the opportunity to call for a nationwide sustainable industrial policy.

In contrast to the majority of members on Dudelange's municipal council, members of the Green Party expressed satisfaction at the recent announcement that Greek dairy company Fage would no longer construct a yoghurt factory in the Wolser industrial zone. In a press release, Déi Gréng suggested that lessons be learned from the experience, particularly concerning dialogue between local authorities and residents.

As the Rifkin trial foreshadowed, industrial policy was shown to be lacking coherence at local and national levels, according to the press release.

The Dudelange members of the party asked that national industrial zones remain open to local and national companies, provided they are considered necessary for the country. The statement suggested a consultation with national authorities regarding potential candidate for the Wolser industrial zone, using innovative and sustainable industrial policy instead of opening the doors to foreign companies which would consume local resources without paying tax in return.
