Grosbous and Wahl are two small towns in the northwest of the Grand Duchy. It would be the first municipal fusion since Rosport and Mompach joined in 2018, should locals vote in favour of the move. It would further turn Grosbous-Wahl into the fourth largest municipality in the Redange canton, with 2,200 residents spread across nine different communes.

Grosbous and Wahl first began negotiating the fusion in 2018. On 11 November 2020, officials signed a declaration to make the intention more concrete, but the final verdict will come from locals at the end of this month. Minister for Home Affairs Taina Bofferding underlined that the fusion could not take place without the support of the people.

Both towns intend on keeping working infrastructures and institutions, such as sports buildings or schools, where they are. Nevertheless, government officials believe that there are many beneficial reasons for making the fusion happen, including an improvement of municipal services.

The government recently decided to increase subsidies for municipal fusions by 10%, which means they now receive €2,200 instead of €2,000 per resident. In the case of Grosbous-Wahl, the support would thus amount to an estimated €500,000.
