LuxembourgLooking back on five years of fixed speed cameras

RTL Today
Luxembourg's first automatic radar was put into operation on the N7 in mid-March, five years ago.

Since then, it would seem that these preventive controls are bearing fruit. The responsible minister gave a positive assessment of the past five years before announcing that in the future, speed cameras installed at red lights and in tunnels should also appear in Luxembourg.

Five years ago, the first fixed speed camera began catching speeding drivers on the N7. Within the next five years, 24 such speed cameras have been put into operation across the country. In 2020, they caught individuals 140,000 times. Thanks to this device, François Bausch, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, believes that Luxembourg has adopted a new driving style.

Last year, a new average speed camera was also installed along the N11 between Waldhof and Gonderange, which calculates the average speed of vehicles over a distance of four kilometres and checks whether the 90km/h limit is being observed.

In addition, as announced by the minister, a radar will be installed in the Markusberg tunnel on the A13 and the arrival of a radar at the red lights of the Place de l'Étoile in Luxembourg City is announced for April.

Two other similar projects are in preparation: in Hollerich and at the Schlammesté, not forgetting the construction site radars which can be installed temporarily at any location and the police, who are also equipped with several mobile radars.
