A corresponding motion by Luxembourg Socialist Workers’ Party (LSAP) MP Claire Delcourt was adopted unanimously during a Chamber plenary session on Wednesday afternoon.

She called on the government to draw up a complete list of all milk products for babies that have been recalled. Delcourt noted that the information is available on a Swiss government website: in contrast to Luxembourg’s food safety website, a complete list of the affected products – including pictures, serial numbers and expiry dates – is provided there.

The MP also wondered whether the LU-Alert application could be used for food warnings, for example by allowing consumers to scan a product’s barcode in a supermarket. Minister of Agriculture Martine Hansen said that developing a new app would not be the best option. However, after discussing the matter with Minister for Home Affairs Léon Gloden, his team will examine what the LU-Alert app could offer for this purpose.

Several MPs, including Delcourt, clarified that no child in Luxembourg has fallen ill due to poor-quality powdered milk.
