A Luxair Boeing 737-700, which was diverted to Madrid rather than Findel on 9 February due to a crack in the cockpit window, will not be returned to “commercial flight operations”, the airline confirmed on Friday.

According to Luxair, the decision was made several months ago as part of their fleet planning process. The aircraft has been in service for 22 years.

The decision to withdraw it was “in no other context,” they wrote. On the journey from Madrid back to Luxembourg, two days after the first incident, the plane briefly landed in Bordeaux.

The Boeing 737-700 NG will not be scrapped, Luxair confirmed. As part of phasing out an aircraft it is normal for airlines to use individual components or systems or to sell them on.
