Bausch and John Rood, the Under Secretary of Defence for Policy, signed a mandate for a space cooperation working group. A second memorandum focused on security for space flights. The provision of space situational awareness will allow both parties to monitor debris and prevent it from colliding with satellites.
Delegated Minister of Defence Henri Kox focused more on the possibilities of space, including new meteorological satellites. They then met with the US Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross to focus on current and future collaboration in space. The ministers were also informed of US progress in cyber defence, an area where both parties shared the observation that the field is growing in significance.
Bausch said he believes future conflicts will be accompanied by cyber attacks, thus making it essential for governments to prepare themselves due to society's dependence on such technologies.
During the visit, the Luxembourgish ministers met with seven senators to discuss bilateral political and economic relations within the EU, and Bausch and Kox laid a wreath at the Arlington National Cemetery's Battle of the Bulge monument to honour the fallen American soldiers. Finally, the ministers met with officials from the Center for Climate Security, an American think tank focusing on advice on the impact of climate change on security.
