In collaboration with the Ministry of Cooperation, Lux-Development, the Swiss Cooperation, and the ONG 'ada', new projects in up to 90 countries will be supported.

The SSNUP, Smallholder Safety Net Upscaling Programme, is designed to help all these small agricultural sectors that face exploitation in problematic regions.
The focus is on the African continent, states Laura Foschi, executive director at 'ada'.

10 million people should be able to benefit from this initiative, over a period of 10 years. The first phase is scheduled to end in three years, and a first report will then be drawn up.

This project is led by the Luxembourg Cooperative, set up to help up to 3 million small-scale farmers in third-world countries to become more productive and resistant to exploitation, via investment funds and impact funds.

In the first phase, which will run until the end of 2023, 3 million euros from Luxembourg and 9.5 million Swiss francs will be invested.

Should the programme continue, the programme budget will be increased to 50 million euros.

Especially during the corona and climate crisis, transport routes are said to have been limited. The cooperation in building up a strong autonomy is inevitable, as concluded by Franz Fayot.
