Experts and business leaders assessed the perception of corruption in 180 states in order to compile the report for the Transparency International NGO. Luxembourg secured a spot in the top 10.
With a score of 80/100, Luxembourg ranks in ninth place, tied for points with Germany. Only the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, Sweden, Singapore, Finland, New Zealand and Denmark (87 points) do better.
Considering the average score is 43, and two out of three countries obtained less than 50, Luxembourg's performance stands out as particularly high. Its score is also well above the European average (66 points).
With the exception of some significant increases for Greece or Guyana (+12 points in seven years) and considerable declines for Canada and Nicaragua (-7), the majority of countries saw their situation remain stable. The authors of the report, despite congratulating the countries least affected by corruption, call on all residents to remain vigilant and to take part in the political and economic life of their country to ensure stability and transparency.
