The incident took place at around 7pm on 27 August on the N11 near Junglinster. A driver was stopped by two men wearing vests and caps with 'Police' inscribed.

The fake police officers handed the woman a speeding ticket of €145, to be paid on the spot in cash. She was not given any proof of having exceeded the speed limit, nor a receipt for the fake fine.

The driver was made to give up her driving licence to one of the men while the other did an inspection of the car. The two men then drove away in a black car registered to Luxembourg which was parked on the hard shoulder. The victim's licence was found days later in the letterbox of the police station in Echternach.

Police are now looking for these two individuals. The first spoke perfect Luxembourgish, was of average weight, was around 1m70 and had brown eyes. The other did not speak with the victim, but was around 1m75 or 1m80 with a beard and was wearing black trousers with black sports shoes but no mask.

Anyone with information concerning the two individuals, a similar situation or the returning of the driving licence to the Echternach police station should contact police by phone at (+352) 244 - 72 1000 or by mail: police.echternach@police.etat.lu.
