The so-called “Schlammwiss” is one of the protected reserves, extending over 88 hectares between Uebersyren and Mensdorf.
Wetlands are important living spaces for numerous animals, including insects and birds.
The Schlammwiss is also known as the largest reed zone in Luxembourg. About 20 different bird species spend their winters in the area.
Nevertheless, the area is not large enough to fall under the Ramsar Convention, a 1971 UNESCO agreement signed in and named after Ramsar in Iran, which regulates the preservation of wetlands.
