In the EU, only Swedes leave their family homes at a younger age than people from Luxembourg.

According to data from the EU's statistics agency Eurostat, Luxembourgers fly the nest at an average age of 20.1.

This places Luxembourg in second place in the EU, with only Swedes leaving their parents younger (17.8). Denmark (21.1), Finland (21.8) and Estonia (22.2) make up the rest of the top five.

In contrast, residents of Croatia (31.8), Slovakia (30.9), Italy (30.1) and Bulgaria (30.0) all on average remain in their family homes until after their 30th birthday.

Meanwhile, Luxembourg's share of 25 to 34-year-olds still living in their family homes hovers around 20%, placing the Grand Duchy tenth-lowest in the EU.

Within the EU, only in Luxembourg do men leave their family homes before women, with an average age of 20.0 compared to 20.3.
