Motorists passing through wooded areas should pay extra attention in the event of wildlife on the roads, says the Luxembourg road safety association. It is advised to stick to lower speeds where possible, as collisions with animals can have dire consequences.

As the hunting season kicks off, animals are more likely to be found straying from their usual paths and potentially running into the road. There is a risk of multiple animals crossing roads, and they could feasibly be accompanied by hunting dogs.

In the event of a collision with an animal, motorists are advised to don a high-visibility vest, secure the scene of the accident with flashing lights and the emergency triangle, and inform the police by calling 113. The animal should not be touched, regardless of injury or death. If injured, motorists can notify the Dudelange wild animal care centre on (+352) 26 51 39 90.

Hunts such as the battue hunts, in which hunters make noise through banging objects to scare animals into open space, are signalled with signs. The website geoportail.lu has information on the different dates of the hunts.
