The defendant was found guilty of having called the police hotline at 113 nine times in April 2017. On each call, he claimed a bomb would soon explode at Abrigado, the 'Fixerstuff' (facility that provides a safe space for drug users to inject) in Luxembourg City.
The police had to evacuate the building and its immediate surroundings. Officers also deployed a sniffer dog specialised in detecting explosives, who did not find any scent of any explosives.
The man was not present at the trial due to a recent operation, but his lawyer explained on his behalf that he was deeply sorry for his actions. As she explained, he was aware that he committed an incredibly foolish act and admitted to having been under the influence of alcohol and drugs. The defendant was deeply ashamed of his actions.
He also claimed through his lawyer that the month he spent in prison had sobered him up. Finally, he admitted he had wanted to play a trick on the Fixerstuff, which in turn had severe consequences in the deployment of several police patrols.
The court sentenced the man to 180 hours community service on Thursday.
