The theme of this year's event is "The ocean, our climate and weather". In light of the occasion, Minister of Agriculture, Viticulture and Rural Development Romain Schneider issued a statement in which he highlights the dependence of the country's agricultural sector on weather and climate. He further emphasises the importance of meteorological analyses and warn systems to support farmers and winemakers.
Luxembourg's first weather service was founded in the year 1907 and run by the Administration for Technical Services in Agriculture (ASTA). The goal of the service was to provide data and weather predictions to the agricultural sector, as well as evaluations of climate-related impacts on production.
Nowadays, the national weather service operates a network of 32 automatic stations. All gathered pieces of information are regularly published on the website AgriMeteo.
The services offered to farmers, growers, horticulturists and arboriculturists also include the modelling of forecasts and assistance in planning and decision-making, as well as popular alert services such as Sentinelle and Vitimeteo. Current meteorological alerts send subscribers a SMS or e-mail when the temperature threatens to descend below a certain threshold.
