Democratic Party MP and European Member of Parliament Charles Goerens was aware of the troubles between Monica Semedo and her personnel, which ultimately led to the Parliament sanctioning the MEP for psychological harassment and Semedo's departure from the DP, but he was not aware of the exact details, said Goerens in an interview with RTL Radio.
The party was not involved in the procedure and could not have steered it in any direction, commented Goerens. He believes that Semedo should step down from her seat as MEP, as she was voted in as a DP member and representative to take up the job in Brussels and Strasbourg. Now that she has resigned from the party, she should hand in her resignation from the European Parliament as well, said Goerens.
The views expressed to Goerens by Semedo on the case will have been rather one-sided, and for confidentiality reasons the names of the victims are only known to Semedo and the committee covering the case. While still having faith in Semedo as a human being, he is nevertheless "saddened and very disappointed" by her actions.
