Minister François Bausch elaborated on the situation in his response to a parliamentary inquiry by an MP from the Pirate Party. He explained that since 2012, 18 accidents have occurred in the Markusberg tunnel alone, which is why the first speed camera inside a tunnel will be set up at this particular location. The politician bid caution over the statistics at the same time, noting that there is no data prior to the year 2012.
Bausch also underlined the importance of respecting speed limits in general. He thus reminded the Chamber that as recently as July, two people died and three were severely injured after an accident happened in the A7 motorway tunnel Gousselerberg.
