These two long-serving members of the Chamber of Deputies have resigned their mandates and wish to make way for younger representatives.

Marco Schank from the Christian Social People's Party (CSV) and Gast Gibéryen from the Alternative Democratic Reform Party (adr) spoke one last time on Tuesday to their fellow MPs gathered in public session for the start of the parliamentary year.

Schank wants to concentrate on his work as mayor of the merged municipality of Esch-sur-Sûre. He sat in the Chamber of Deputies as MP for the North from 1999 to 2009, before becoming Minister for Housing, Sustainable Development, and Public Works. Schank came back to the Chamber of Deputies in 2013. He will now be replaced by the mayor of Ettelbruck, Jean-Paul Schaaf.

His ADR colleague, Gast Gibéryen, was a member of the Chamber of Deputies for 31 years without interruption. The former mayor of Frisange handed over his position as chairman of the parliamentary group to Fernand Kartheiser and his seat as an MP to Fred Keup.
