Iconic monumentMunicipality against removal of trees around Golden Lady

RTL Today
The project selected for the Golden Lady has a serious "blemish" in that the trees around the iconic monument would have to be removed, Mayor of Luxembourg City Lydie Polfer stressed during the City Breakfast on Wednesday morning.

The Ministry of Public Works and the municipality issued a call for tenders for a redesign of Place de la Constitution, but the municipality is not entirely satisfied with the project that was chosen.

“We don’t think it’s a good solution and we told the Minister that as well. We agreed to meet again to talk about it and see how the square could be redesigned. We agree with the general idea of replacing parking spaces with a more recreational area, however we disagree with the fact that some trees would have to be removed for the project.”

In any case, work on the project will not begin until the Place Guillaume II car park expansion is completed. As a result, Polfer stressed that there is still time to change the project.
