Whilst Luxembourgish law may allow and regulate the creation of state databases on citizens, it conversely allows those citizens affected to access the information that the state holds on them.

The National Commission for Data Protection (CNPD) announced that citizens can access any information concerning their own person compiled in state administrative tools used by the police, the State Intelligence Service, the National Security Authority, the Army, the Financial Intelligence Unit and the Customs and Excise Administration To access the information, members of the public simply have to submit a written request.

The CNPD has published a template on its website which allows the person in question to request information held by different institutions. In order to do so, those interested must simply complete the template by adding their name, details, and address it to the service in question (for instance, the police).

Interested parties can download the letter on the CNPD's website in the form of a Word document. The letter is available in English as well as French and German. The CNPD also links to the relevant legislation.
