The Ministry for Home Affairs has released new figures showing a notable drop in asylum applications in Luxembourg at the start of the year. Compared with the previous year, the number of applications fell from 360 in the first two months of the year to 210.

Since the beginning of the year, 25 rejected asylum seekers have been returned from Luxembourg to their countries of origin, including three forced returns. Most of those concerned returned to North Macedonia, but also to Colombia, Venezuela, and Kosovo.

Around half of the applications were either rejected or not examined because another country was responsible for handling the asylum claim. Most of the people who applied for asylum in the Grand Duchy came from Syria, Eritrea, Afghanistan, and Algeria.
