
They will be replacing DP finance minister Pierre Gramegna and LSAP ministers Dan Kersch and Romain Schneider respectively.
Following his positive Covid test, Grand Duke Henri is in isolation and will not be present, but rather streaming live from the grand-ducal residence in Colmar-Berg.
For the same reason, the resignation addresses of ministers Gramegna, Kersch and Schneider were cancelled. They will however tour their respective ministries to say goodbye during the afternoon.
While Romain Schneider will be retiring politically, Dan Kersch, at 60, will move to the Chamber of Deputies.
As he explained to RTL in an interview, he was happy to stand for reelection in 2023, if his party wished, but not for a government appointment.
The reshuffle also has repercussions for the Chamber of Deputies, where Carlo Weber will be sworn in as MP for the LSAP in the north. In Diekirch, Claude Thill will take over as mayor from Claude Hagen, while Yves Cruchten becomes new party whip for the LSAP and will step back as party president.
This is the second cabinet reshuffle of the Bettel government after August 2019, when Felix Braz, then minister for Justice and deputy Prime Minsister for the Green Party, handed over his responsibilities to François Bausch and Sam Tanson after a heart attack. Henri Kox also joined the government at this point.
In February 2020, Etienne Schneider resigned for the LSAP and was replaced by Franz Fayot and Paulette Lenert, who also took over as deputy Prime Minister.
With Yuriko Backes leaving her post only 18 months after joining in June 2020, the grand-ducal court is still looking for a new marshal of the court.
