New Minister for Police Henri Kox presented the new recruitment modalities this Monday morning. Practical training will be given greater weight during the two-year programme.

The new modalities will come into effect in 2022. Luxembourg police will seek to recruit 607 police officers and 240 civilians until 2022.

General police director Philippe Schrantz explained this Monday morning that staff shortages are causing internal unrest. The public, he said, also believes that the police service is currently not good enough. He outlined several points that the police will work on. Police will for instance evaluate ongoing missions and determine whether or not certain missions could be taken over by other (non-police) civil servants. This would allow police to focus on its core missions.
