Luxembourg City's tram network has been steadily growing since its opening in December 2017. Eventually the network will link up the Cloche d'Or with Findel Airport - in the meantime, construction has been going full pelt across the city over the summer months, with around 20 people working each day during the three week holiday period in August. The tram construction was notably exempt from the collective leave stipulated across the construction sector.

Work has continued at Place de Paris with heavy machinery involved in order to drill through the thick stone in the area, said entrepreneur Orlando Pinto. He added that the opportunity to work through the quiet summer months allowed the tram works to progress with installing pipelines and other work, all of which would have been much more difficult if installed during busier months.

The track has been laid across Place d'Etoile, with the last construction on the network being carried out on Avenue Emile Reuter. Helge Dorstewitz, the Luxtram manager overseeing the works, estimated that they will be able to commence platform works and lay down rails as of 23 or 24 September.

Construction on Boulevard Royal is progressing at a slower pace, beneath the former Hamilius terminus. Dorstewitz explained that delays were mainly due to the infrastructure of the old Aldringen car park. Their work has been made especially difficult due to the underground gallery found attached to the car park. For now, the construction workers are focusing on dismantling the existing infrastructure before laying down tram tracks.

As the first parts of the track have been laid down on Avenue de la Liberté, work continues across the network this autumn.
